The Brazilian
Mythical alpine singletrack
This is one of those mythic trails that you hear about but can never find, kilometers of glorious singletrack drapped down an Alp.
Of an evening I poured over maps of the area. The start was fairly obvious as was the end but the bit in the middle, well didn't look like I would find it from the sofa. Then a chance conversation with a Swiss guy who had ridden it and had a map. Then of course I found it on the internet.
It's a epic trail of two parts. The first is mostly paying for the second.
You take the miniture cable car from Chalais to Vercorin and then ride through the village to the next cable car. This runs in two sections, first up to the mid-station of Sigeroulaz and then into the alpine arriving at CrĂȘt du Midi.
Descend down the doubletrack, we tried the singletrack, mostly it wasn't rideable, and traverse to the waterfall at Le Pichioc. It's now a tough ride/push up and over Col du Cou. This is an unpleasant push for about an hour.
The second part is pure pleasure and is "Le Brezilian" proper. It's singletrack all the way down, sometimes splitting into a couple of singletracks. You start off on the high mountain down to La Combe where the trail traverses slightly through gorse, which often hides a crank or pedal bashing rock, before heading into the treeline.
Once in the trees it just gets better. It occasionly becomes steep but alway ride able and you wonder where everyone else is and when it will end. At one stage you cross a fireroad and have to keep you eyes peeled for a 'Nax' sign on a rock. This part of the trail takes you through alpine pasture before more unbelievable singletrack eventually spits you out at Nax. It's still not over.

Finding the trail again in Nax can be tricky. It starts off through pasture but this quickly turns back to forest and leads to a long series of pine cone covered switchbacks, finally delivering you into the vineyards of Pramagnon.
All that remains is a short road ride back to the lift. The best trail I have ever ridden. Swiss bliss indeed.
